Same, but Different

Cultivating travel experiences that stick is more than just preparing ahead of time for the trip. Here’s a way to highlight learning experiences in the moment or afterwards to draw attention to key memories that connect.

After making a list of places we’ve visited, we shared comparisons to our recent location: Cartagena, Colombia. Some of the connections our kids shared were:

Honestly, this felt more like a game. There’s room for choice and creativity to participate no matter the age-level. Knowing that it also helps them make sense of the world and how we are more alike than different is like icing on the cake!

Our kids benefit from having a daily schedule, so we brought whiteboards that we use at home. But we also used them for activities like this one. The travel whiteboards and colorful, magnetic double-sided markers will remain part of our standard packing list from this point on!
